As the school year comes to an end, many of the extra-curricular activities children are involved in will also come to a close. Unless parents find creative ways to keep their children active, they will experience boredom. One of the best ways to combat boredom is to have family time together. Here are five family fun activities that can easily be done at home that your family will enjoy.
- Ride Bicycles
Parents pull the bicycles out of the garage and lubricate those rusty chains. Put on your helmets and take the children on a bicycle ride through the neighborhood. You will have the opportunity to greet your neighbors and see new things in your neighborhood that you have never seen up close before. You might even meet some new neighbors. There is no better way for a family to spend quality time together and exercise at the same time. Parents, if you have not ridden your bicycle in a while, getting on it again really is “like riding a bicycle.”
- Movie Night
A great family fun night is family movie night. There are so many great family friendly movies that you didn’t have time to go see during the year. You don’t have to spend lots of money at the movie theaters. You can rent a movie or watch one on cable TV. Pop some popcorn and invite some friends over and have a family movie night right at home.
- Bake-off Contest
If there is one thing we have learned from the TV show MasterChef Junior is that children are quite talented in the kitchen. The problem is that many of them are not given the opportunity to show off their skills. Since the whole family will be cooking together, the adults are there to make sure they stay safe in the kitchen. So, invite friends, cousins and other family members and have a junior bake-off contest. The children will enjoy baking cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. They will also enjoy eating what they make.
- Board Game Night
Playing board games never go out of style. Invite your family and friends. Set up several different play stations of different board games. Form teams that will play against each other. The winner of the team for the first game will rotate to play the winners of the next game. The rotation can continue for as many games as you have. At the end of the night, the best team is the one that wins the most games.
- Water Hose Fun
When it is hot outside and the children are board, rather than packing them up and taking a long trip to the beach or the swimming pool, create your own water games in your back yard. Let your children put on their swim suits. Then turn on the sprinklers in the yard and let them have fun playing in the water. They will have loads of fun without leaving the backyard.
